THE campaign to clean up the streets of Darlington has received a £75,000 boost.
Darlington Borough Council chiefs are investing the money in providing litter bins across the town over the next six weeks.
The authority is reviewing the best locations for the bins, in an effort to encourage maximum usage.
Half of the litter bins in Darlington will be replaced under the scheme.
The money was set aside by the authority for citizens' priorities after it secured £2.2m from Durham County Council, following a six-year legal battle.
Terry Collins, assistant director of environmental services, said: "The installation of the new bins will provide people with more litter disposal facilities, including cigarette end disposal, and will be a further boost to the council's anti-litter campaign."
