A GROUP of residents is asking Hartlepool Borough Council to consider providing parking spaces for them next to their houses.

People living in the Fens ward have submitted a petition to the borough council, raising concerns about the problems of parking in Ibrox Grove.

The road has a wide grass verge on both sides of a single-lane road. There are no footpaths across the grass and no parking provision for residents.

This often leads to residents parking on the verge so their vehicles are nearer to their homes, giving them the added security of knowing that they are close by.

In a letter to the council, one resident said: "Due to an increase in people owning cars, there is a concern over the lack of parking spaces and the subsequent use of the verges for parking.

"This has become increasingly worse over the past year. The conditions of these verges are now so bad it is causing severe problems for the whole of the cul-de-sac.

"It has become a danger for people who are infirm, elderly, young children or people with disabilities.

"The verges are no longer grass and the winter months have turned the verges into a waterlogged mud bath."

Members of the council's regeneration and economy portfolio will meet on Thursday to consider the request.
