THE winner of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's first postal election is Ms Dynamite.
The pop star finished top of a poll of favourite singers organised by the council at Overfields Primary School, in Ormesby, Middlesbrough.
The children were able to select two from a list of six pop stars with Ms Dynamite receiving 31 of the 128 votes cast and Gareth Gates polling 29 votes.
The full pop star poll was: Ms Dynamite 31, Gareth Gates 29, Jennifer Lopez 26, Westlife 23, Girls Aloud 11 and Darius 8.
The exercise was organised by headmaster Jean Robinson after a request by school governor John Harbour, who is the council's democratic services manager.
It is hoped the publicity will encourage voters to use their right to vote and that postal voting is child's play.
A team of 60 canvassers will be delivering postal ballot papers to select the council's 59 councillors across 22 wards, from Wednesday to Tuesday, April 22.
