Darlington Building Society NYSD League Division One

Following their brief flirtation with the Premier Division, Wolviston gave an early-day notice that they aim to bounce straight back when they sent Darlington crashing to defeat.

George Sayers was the architect of the victory as he captured seven wickets for just 17 runs in 13.2 overs, bowling no fewer than eight maidens. The visitors were all out for just 67 and when John Woolnough contributed 30, Wolviston were home, losing just a couple of wickets in 14 overs.

Only one other side managed to beat the weather and win. After posting more than 200, Great Ayton bowled out Bedale for just 95 with John Russell and John Doyle each capturing three wickets. Mark Ellis did even better in the Bedale attack, returning 5-49, but even so the runs flowed from Gary Mudd (35), Doyle (52) and Murphy (34).

Barnard Castle were 61-6 with almost 20 overs left when their game with Normanby Hall had to be called off. Geoff Robinson conceded only 18 runs in 15 overs, including nine maidens and Dave Brown had 3-16 from the 9.4 overs he sent down.

When Normanby Hall batted first they too found runs at a premium and only just managed three figures as Nick Cavanagh picked up three wickets for just five runs when he was a late introduction into the attack. Brian Leach, with five boundaries in 38 was the Hall's top batsman.

Billingham Synthonia declared their innings after just 43.4 overs with 226-9 on the board against Redcar. After losing a couple of early wickets, there were runs from Dave Fairley (43), Simon Driver (37) and Mark Bradley, whose 57 included three sixes and six boundaries.

Adam Law held up Synthonia and he stroked six fours in a game-saving innings of 35. When bad light forced a halt, Redcar were 128-7 with ten overs left.

Adam Jennings and Martin Cull both picked up three cheap wickets in the Billingham attack.

Paul Gough's unbeaten 90 and Richie Clayton's 102 propelled Seaton Carew to 233 for the loss of just one wicket in 50 overs when they entertained Marton. Gough hit seven boundaries while Clayton had three sixes and ten fours in 102 as the pair added 127 for the first wicket. When the rain arrived, Seaton were 157-4 from 35.1 overs which included 72 by newcomer Graham Scanlon who struck ten boundaries.

Only 14 runs separated Middlesbrough and Stokesley at Acklam Park. David Weighell's half century featured in the Stokesley total of 184-9 and when the weather closed in Boro still had four wickets remaining, needing just 15 runs for victory. Richard Borwell (58) and Max Cook (34) almost steered Boro to victory, but they were assisted by no fewer than 45 extras.
