A NATIONAL countryside organisation is hoping to set up a campaign group in Teesdale to fight against proposed developments.
The Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) has raised concerns about a series of developments around Barnard Castle.
Jan Arger, a member of CPRE who lives in the area, said: "We consider that these pose a very real threat to the quality of life for residents, as well as the nature and quality of the countryside."
She raised concerns about issues including:
* A proposed waste transfer station and recycling scheme at Stainton Grove.
* Proposed housing developments at Thorngate, Barnard Castle.
* Wind turbine issues.
* Traffic problems.
She said: "We would like to establish a CPRE group in the area to address these, and other, issues that will undoubtedly arise."
CPRE is holding a meeting at Witham Hall, Barnard Castle, on Tuesday, May 6, at 7pm for anyone interested in joining a group.
