A COMMUNITY resource centre is celebrating its first anniversary with a family fun day.

The Four Clocks Project has gone from strength-to- strength since it opened in Bishop Auckland.

On Saturday, staff at the project are planning to hold a party that promises to have something for all the family to enjoy.

Tyne Tees Television news reader Andy Kluz will open the event, which will run from 10am to 4pm.

Organisers are appealing for people to take home-made cakes so they can be sold to raise money for the centre.

A spokesman for the Four Clocks project said: "No birthday would be complete without a cake, but we thought 365 cakes would be better - one for every day we have been open.

"Try as we might, we are unable to produce that many cakes without help and are appealing for donations to sell on the day."

Medieval stocks will give visitors the chance to pelt someone with wet sponges, whether it be their boss, teacher or friend.

Those who want to dress up for the occasion can take part in a fancy dress competition at about 2pm, which invites people to dress up as characters from their favourite period in history.

The more adventurous can try the Paintball Range, which is being provided by the recruiting team of the Light Infantry.

Other attractions include a Durham and Dales art and craft fair, face-painting and flower displays by Shildon Flower Club. There will also be a series of demonstrations throughout the day.
