TOUGH financial decisions will have to be made by the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust as it tries to plug a potential budget shortfall of almost £4m.

The trust, which has a budget of £144.51m for 2003-2004, said it faced difficult decisions after a board meeting on Friday. It now plans to see if cuts can be made without affecting patient care.

Chairman Bryan Hanson said: "We will be looking at ways of saving money without directly affecting patient care, and working with our colleagues in primary care, we may have to make some difficult choices. This will be very challenging."
