THIRTY youngsters did their bit for the environment last week by helping to clean up a Darlington park.

The pupils, from Firthmoor Primary School, were joined in South Park on Friday by staff from fast food restaurant McDonald's.

The firm has launched its biggest ever anti-litter campaign this year, with 800 restaurants including the one at Morton Park site - lending their support.

Darlington Borough Council's assistant environmental services director Terry Collins said: "We recently awarded the Northgate McDonald's branch our Tidy Trader Charter award in recognition of their efforts made in supporting the council's anti-litter campaign.

"The McDonald's and Firthmoor School clean-up is another step in the right direction in the drive against littering in Darlington."
