CHARITY cyclists have raised more than £1,500 for good causes in the North-East after biking from coast to coast.

Members of Derwentside Round Table successfully completed the cycle ride from Workington, Cumbria, to Roker, Sunderland, a total of 135 miles. The event was an initiation into the group for new member John Randell, of Stanley.

"On the way, we had a little ceremony where they gave me my badge and welcomed me to the group," he said. "This was my first charity event with the Round Table and at times it was hard work - we all got a bit saddle sore. But I really enjoyed it and would happily do it again."

Round Table fundraisers will be at Lanchester Show in July, where they will be offering visitors the chance to win a car.
