Darlington'S cultural attractions could be improved as part of a five-year blueprint to promote the town as a tourist destination.

Arts, science, sport and tourism are top of the agenda as Darlington launches a cultural drive for the coming years.

The borough council has launched a five-year strategy, Moving Up, which hopes to bring diverse cultural activities to Darlington.

Aims include preserving and developing Darlington's assets, including restoring South Park, promoting Darlington's railway, Quaker and engineering heritage, improving the town's venues and facilities, and promoting culture among neighbourhood and community groups.

The council hopes to increase tourism, investment and businesses, increase publicity, and create a sense of pride for residents.

The programme also aims to continue to improve the quality of life for residents and brings with it the chance of regeneration opportunities.
