CHILDREN from the North-East with a flair for engineering are to compete in the finals of a national competition.
Students are working hard on their entries for the annual North-East finals of the Young Engineer for Britain competition.
The competition, which has more than £50,000 in prizes nationally, attracts hundreds of entrants each year.
The regional final will take place on Friday, at Samsung, in Wynyard, near Billingham, Teesside.
The education advisor for the Engineering Employers' Federation (EEF) Northern area, Geoff Clack, said: "The students put a tremendous amount of work and thought into the projects they design for the competition, and many of them have real commercial applications.
"This competition is designed to make science fun, and to interest more young people in science and engineering as a career."
The contest is organised by the Engineering Council, with support from the EEF.
