CAMPAIGNERS against the proposed sale of school playing fields are urging more people to back them.

Darlington Borough Council has launched a public consultation exercise after announcing plans to sell off land at Longfield Comprehensive School.

Local residents have until June 14 to respond to a document seeking their views.

If the proposals are approved by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) the money generated could create a new tennis centre.

But a campaign against the potential development has been launched, with residents claiming the consultation is flawed.

One resident said: "We are stressing the importance of parents and others in the community getting their forms in, and copied to the DfES by June 14."
