Chefs in Middlesbrough are being reminded they have until tomorrow to return their application forms for Curry Chef of the Year 2003.

Middlesbrough Council has invited curry chefs from around the town to enter the competition which will take place during the week beginning Monday, June 23. The competition provides a chance for chefs at restaurants and takeaways to demonstrate their skills. A panel of judges will visit each of the entrants who will be asked to prepare one complete meal consisting of a curry dish and complementary side dish accompanied by rice or bread. The meal will be assessed on qualities such as appearance, aroma, texture and taste.

WATER FUN: A Splashathon for babies, in aid of the Tommy's charity, will take place at Eston Sports Academy on Friday, at 10.45am and will raise funds to help research premature and still births, and miscarriages. Those taking part will get a balloon and stickers.

KEEP-FIT: Keep-fit sessions will be held at Hemlington Recreation Centre for the over-50s on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9.15am. A yoga and relaxation class is held on Fridays, from 10.45am until noon. To take part, or for further information, call (01642) 796546.

TALENT SHOW: Youth and community dance groups will be showcasing their talents at a performance, called Fusion. The event will be held at Middlesbrough College, on Thursday, June 19, at 7.30pm.

CURRENCY CALL: Hartlepool and District Hospice is still appealing for unwanted foreign currency, which can be used to generate funds for the organisation. Notes and coins can be donated to the hospice at any time. They can be left at any of the hospice shops, or at the the hospice, in Hutton Avenue, Hartlepool.
