Darlington Building Society NYSD Premier League Division One: Wolviston still lead the table despite losing for the first time when they went down to championship rivals Great Ayton, writes Malcolm Pratt.

Geoff Peacock stroked six boundaries in a half century but the batsmen were troubled by the twin attack of Colin Murray and John Doyle. Murray claimed three wickets for 25 runs in 12 overs while Doyle conceded just 17 runs in eight overs, taking seven wickets. Wolviston were reduced to 132 all out in 47 overs and looked vulnerable at the halfway stage.

Jimmy Jones and George Sayers each took an early wicket but when John Grainge carried his bat for 52, Ayton were never in danger.

Seaton Carew are 15 points behind the leaders following their eight-wicket win at home to Barnard Castle. David Stanwix found the boundary on eight occasions, ending undefeated on 44, but the visitors totalled just 130-8 after labouring through 50 overs.

Kevin Rowntree proved extremely economical, returning 4-25 in 12 overs as David Alsop bowled throughout from the other end, his lengthy 25-overs spell earning him three for 61.

Seaton's reply featured an undefeated 55 by Gary Sharp and victory was achieved after 33 overs.

Stokesley and Normanby Hall produced an abundance of runs, but neither side managed victory. Mark Smith was the star of the home side's innings hitting 114, which together with 52 from Chris Knock propelled the total to 259-4.

Although Hall ended on 181-6 they never threatened but Brian Leach, with an undefeated 53, ensured a draw. Bedale had 140 runs in hand of Middlesbrough at Acklam Park. It was the mid-innings partnership between Monkhouse (40) and Gills (69no) which lifted Bedale to almost 250.

Chris Murdoch (36) and Cooper (34) raised Boro's hopes, but the innings ended with just 145 on the board as Mallander captured 4-9.

Redcar were another side to win handsomely when they bowled out Darlington for 121, with Douglas and Colin Bainbridge both taking four wickets. Andy Wetherall's undefeated 86 was by far the biggest individual total as Redcar moved past the 200 mark despite Philip Buxton taking five wickets in the visitors' attack. Dean Kirby (49) and Campbell, with an unbeaten 45, led Marton to a match-winning 142-2 at home to Marske, who were restricted to 140 mainly by the bowling of Ditchburn and Walker.

Guisborough had to hang on for a draw with their last pair at the wicket against Billingham Synthonia. Keith Martin and Martin Cull shared six wickets to restrict the home side to only 127 for nine after Synners had posted 214-6, which included 44 by Dennis Wing and 59 not out from Marley.
