Two youths are helping police with inquiries after a teenager was raped when out walking her dog.
Police said the 13-year-old girl was left so badly traumatised and injured, she had to undergo surgery.
The incident happened between 6.30pm and 7pm on Saturday on land near Imperial Road, Billingham.
Detective Sergeant Adrian Bradley said: "This was an horrific attack on the young girl who thought she was going to be killed. "Anyone with any information is asked to contact us as soon as possible on (01642) 326326."
