COUNCILLORS are calling for a plan to build 15 homes on a Whitby meadow to be turned down. Scarborough Borough Council has recommended that the scheme at Boghall be refused. More than 230 people signed petitions or wrote letters saying the plan would invade their privacy and result in the loss of green land. They also feared that many of the properties would be bought as second homes.

CENTRE SUCCESS: A community centre that opened eight months ago is proving popular among the residents. Colburn Community Centre manager Ian Sixsmith said: "The centre is finally showing its true potential to help and set up community projects, such as kids clubs and youth cafes." CROSSING CLOSURE: Drivers have been warned to expect diversions when the level crossing in Northallerton's Ainderby Road closes for essential track maintenance work on Saturday, June 21. The barriers will remain down from 10pm until 9am the following morning.
