Police are hoping the public will be able to help them trace vandals who smashed four school windows.

Stones were thrown through kitchen windows at Hipswell School between Wednesday night and early yesterday morning. Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact Richmond police on (01609) 783131.

SUMMER FAIR: Bedale High School holds its summer fair next weekend. There will be a barbecue and bar and stalls selling cakes, biscuits, soft drinks and ice cream. Entertainment includes a putting challenge, face painting, a bouncy castle and slide and a fancy dress competition with a garden theme. Gates open at 1pm on Saturday, with costumes judged at 1.30pm. Admission is 75p.

HIDDEN GARDENS: Helperby and Brafferton, near Boroughbridge, will open their gardens to visitors on Sunday, July 6. All are welcome to tour private grounds normally closed to the public and to browse stalls on the main street. Entertainment, including Morris dancing, begins at noon. Tickets to see the gardens cost £2.50.

PLAN APPROVED: Planners at Harrogate Borough Council have given permission for a development at the ambulance centre, Millfield Street, Pateley Bridge, in Nidderdale. It will involve the demolition of two buildings, the removal of a portable building and the erection of a single-storey ambulance station.

LIVE SHOW: Silver Street are performing live at the RAFA club in Northallerton, with their sounds of the Sixties. The show begins at 8pm, on Friday, July 11. All proceeds go to the Hambleton and Richmondshire branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Tickets cost £6 and include a pie and peas supper.
