DURHAM will parade new signing Shoaib Akhtar before their fans this morning, but have decided not to play him in the four-day match against India A at Riverside.

They are also resting Martin Love as they turn their attentions towards the resumption of championship duty at Worcester on Wednesday.

The biggest name on show today could be that of Gavaskar as Rohan, son of the legendary Sunil, is expected to be in the tourists' line-up.

He made 41 in the opening match of the six-week trip on Wednesday, sharing a stand of 146 with Gautam Gambhir as India A won their one-day match against British Universities at the Racecourse by eight wickets.

Kent's Rob Ferley, a Durham student, boosted the home total to 221 for nine with 35 not out, but the Indians won with seven overs to spare as Gambhir reached his century off 96 balls and finished on 128 not out.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra tore the middle out of the students' batting after a good start, finishing with four for 41.

There are six players with Test experience in the Indian party and they are expected to provide rich entertainment against a young Durham attack led by Ian Hunter, Mark Davies and Nicky Hatch, making his first senior appearance of the season.

Michael Gough is recalled to first team duty after missing the run of one-day games and performing well in the second team this week.

* All eyes will be on Craig White in Yorkshire's championship match against Somerset at Taunton today. The England all-rounder is all geared up to have his first bowl for the county in almost a year.

After suffering back problems, he had a pre-season rib operation but now feels fit to bowl again.

In the eight matches in which he bowled last summer, White captured only ten wickets at 45.6.

Yorkshire go into the game confident that they will regain some of their form following a three-week break from championship cricket.

They have a poor track record at Taunton in recent years and last season they were beaten by seven wickets.

They allowed Somerset to recover from 75 for six in the first innings when Ian Blackwell flogged Matthew Hoggard on his way to a rapid century.
