A STUNT rider from the region will attempt to break a world record at a bike show this weekend.

Dave Coates, of Darlington, is aiming to set a new record by performing 20 doughnuts, complete circles made by a bike with its wheels remaining in contact with the ground and the back wheel undergoing a full spin, in one minute.

The attempt will take place at the Bikewise show at Durham Constabulary's headquarters, at Aykley Heads, Durham, which starts at 10am on Sunday.

Other attractions include a skills demonstration by trials bike champions James Lampkin and brothers Andy and Chris Huddleston.

Police will also demonstrate a new urban street bike used to target unlawful bikers.

Sergeant Bob Brown, from Durham's motorcycle section, said: "The various attractions make it an ideal family fun day, even for those who might have only a passing interest in motorbikes."

Admission to Bikewise is £1 and parking is free.
