A CONCEPT dreamed up on a rainy day off work has put two entrepreneurs on the brink of business stardom.

Ian Chisholm and George Sanderson discovered the roots of a business venture using skills they already had in the television aerial and satellite industry.

The two men formed Gangway Limited after devising a tile and slate clamp to keep aerials stable on the top of roofs.

Modern houses that had been built without chimneystacks or gable ends had been making their job difficult before they struck upon the solution.

The company has since been named one of the 20 brightest new entrepreneurs in Britain.

Gangway fought off the challenge from nearly 600 enterprises to reach the semi-finals of the HSBC Start-Up Stars Awards.

If the pair win the ultimate title they will receive a £20,000 first prize.

Mr Chisholm and Mr Sanderson were TV and satellite engineers with more than 18 years of experience between them before starting up Gangway Limited in May 2001.
