CASTLE Eden Walkway Planetarium, near Thorpe Thewles, is hosting two events this month.

Visitors can examine the night skies indoors at 3pm on Sunday.

The following Sunday, at the same time, people can look at the flames of the sun in pictures beamed live from the observatory. To reserve seats, at £3 for adults and £1.50 concessions, call (01740) 630544.

WRECK DAY: Children have the chance to explore a wreck at Hartlepool's Maritime Archaeology Resource Centre on Wednesday. Children's character Sherloctopus will be there and activities include finding out about ships' canons, drawing and craftwork. Entry is £1.50 per child and sessions are from 9.30am to 11am, 11.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 3.30pm. Call (01429) 869706 to book.

WURLITZER CONCERT: Organist Chris Powell will play the Eston Wurlitzer on Sunday, August 31, at James Finegan Municipal Hall, Fabian Road, Eston. The event starts at 2.30pm, and doors open at 2pm. Admission is £2.50 for adults, £1.50 for concessions, at the door. During the interval, there will be a raffle in aid of the Langbaurgh Theatre Organ Society.

SHOW DAY: The annual free Hartlepool Horticultural Show will take place inside the Borough Hall, on Hartlepool's Headland, on Saturday, August 23, from 12.30pm to 5pm, and on Sunday, August 24, from 11am to 4pm.

NEW OFFICES: Mandale Commercial Limited has applied to Stockton Borough Council for permission to build 22 two-storey office blocks, two cafes, a shop and car park at Short Close, Preston Farm Industrial Estate, Stockton.

NEW COURT: Stockton Borough Council has received a planning application from Yarm Sports and Social Club, Leven Road, Yarm, to build an extension for a fourth squash court.

LIFEBOAT FUNDRAISING: Redcar Ladies Lifeboat Guild is holding a bazaar at the Lifeboat House, in Redcar, on Saturday, August 23, from 10am to 2pm.
