A PLANNING application to install a 15-metre high mobile phone mast in the Chowdene area of Gateshead has been refused.

Gateshead Borough Council's development control panel rejected the proposals by the company O2 for the mast on the west side of Durham Road, near Cromer Court. Hundreds of residents signed a petition opposing the application.
