A NATIONAL charity is turning its attention to County Durham in its search for a band of daredevil volunteers.

Sense - the support group for children and adults who are both deaf and blind - is hoping to recruit fearless fundraisers from the area to take part in a sponsored parachute at an airfield near Peterlee.

Volunteers will be able to take part in one of two types of parachute jumps, a tandem skydive from 10,000ft accompanied by a professional trainer or a static line jump performed solo from 3,000ft.

Those who raise enough in sponsorship will be able to take part in the skydive free.

No previous experience is necessary as all training will be provided at the airfield.

Events fundraiser Anna Frances said yesterday: "Deafblind people face many challenges all year round.

"We are asking volunteers to face the challenge of a jump for just one day.

"This is perfect for thrill-seekers who want the excitement of a skydive and at the same time take part in a fun way of raising money for a worthwhile cause."

The money raised from the parachute jumps will go towards providing better services for deafblind people. Anyone interested in taking part should call Anna Francis, on 0207 272 7774, or visit the website, www.sense.org.uk
