A SCHEME to help troubled teenagers has proved so successful it is to be extended throughout County Durham.
In April, Durham County Council launched the Supported Lodgings Service to provide homes and help for young people aged over 16 who have been in local authority care or who may be homeless.
The service appealed for people with sufficient space in their family home to come forward and help the youngsters.
Project co-ordinator Sharron Towns said: "The response we've had has been really good but we are now looking for even more people willing to help prepare young people for living independently.''
She added: "They will be given training, support, supervision and payment of at least £200 a week.
"In return they will encourage young people to develop skills such as cooking, cleaning and budgeting, so they can go on to look after themselves.''
Anyone interested in the scheme should contact Sharron Towns on (01325) 372809.
