The League kicked off the season at the weekend with a full programme.

Last seasons champions Hetton Lyons Cricket Club travelled to Spennymoor Quins, but the very strange weather caused the game to be abandoned before half-time. Torrential rain and lightning causing referee Paul Symons to take the players off for their own safety. Elsewhere, in the Premiership Brandon United travelled to The Garden Farm and won 5-2 thanks to goals from Tony Hanson (2), Trevor Ball, Gavin Bell and Steven Graham. Graeme Cooke and Michael Graver replying for the Farm. A single goal from Paul Freeman was enough to give Pelton ROAB the three points in the 1-0 win over Sedgefield. Sherburn Lambton Arms also earned three points in the 2-1 home win over Burnmoor Cricket Club, Dean Clough and Dale Robinson the scorers. Newcomers in the Premiership Houghton Glendale opened their account with a hard fought 1-0 home win over fellow Premiership newcomers Sacriston Wmc.

In the First Division a goal from Dave Hewson was not enough as Ouston Red Lion crashed to a heavy 6-1 defeat at Chilton Wmc. Sunderland Lakeside and visitors Witton Gilbert wmc shared the points in a fine 3-3 draw, Chris Blakemen (2) and Paul Russell for Lakeside and Chris Lines and two from Ian Bewick for Witton. McKennas and Durham City played out a ten-goal thriller with the home side Mckennas winning 6-4. Paul Richardson (2) and one each for Steve Gordon and Andrew Bell for the City. Coxhoe wmc were 5-4 home winners over Lumley FC.

In the Fourth Division goals from David Sawyer, Lee Slater and an own goal gave Chester Horner's the points in the 3-2 home against Esh Winning Cricket Club. Darren Heslop and Mark Kirkup scoring for the Cricketers. Pelton Fleece were 7-2 home winners over the Glendenning Arms. A double hat-trick for Dell Swift and Jamie Nicholson and one from Paul Shaw.

In the preliminary round of the Durham City afc Supporters Cup, Washington Arms went into a two-goal lead with strikes from David Roll and David Lyall, Birtley William IV were handed a lifeline with a bizarre own goal by Ian Mardsen, however a couple of minutes later Dean Simpson restored the Arms' two goal advantage, in the dying moments of the game Ian Marsden made amends for his earlier gaff with a 25 yard half volley which gave the keeper no chance to give the visitors Washington Arms a 4-1 win. Houghton Mill All Stars got underway with a fine 5-1 over visitors Durham Pot And Glass in what were atrocious rainstorm conditions. Mill full back David Hardie opened the scoring when Pot and Glass goalkeeper fumbled his left wing cross into the net. Kevin Johnston made it two, and Mill's man of the match Lee Stewart made it three shortly after the break. Graham Stoker knocked in number four, and a solo effort from Graeme Hoban gave Mill a comfortable 5-0 lead. Pot and Glass made the score 5-1 late on. Newcomers Fatfield Biddick Inn crashed out 3-0 to visitors Byers Green Wmc, top marksman Andy Shaw hitting one with other goals from Paul Bailes and Stuart Rand. Waterhouses were 6-0 winners at West Rainton Greyhound, The White Tunn won 4-3 at Durham Bede Lodge. Goals from Paul Robson (2) and Andrew Dixon saw Ferryhill wmc into the next round winning 3-1 at Washington Dunlop Tyres. A hat-Trick from Paul McVittie plus one fron Chris Attey gave Belmont wmc a 4-3 home win over the Honest Boy. Alan Brumwell (2) and John Bewick for the Honest Boy. Newton Aycliffe wmc were comfortable 3-0 winners over visitors Lumey Snooker, Aaran Wright, Jason Ryder and Chase McMullen all netting. Lambton Village pulled off a great win at Houghton Comrades winning 5-2 thanks to goals from Simon Williamson, Neil Hughes, Andy Elliott, Dave Irwin and Richard Mellett. Langley Park Sports found visitors Pittington too strong as they crashed to a 8-0 home defeat, John Liddle (3), Alan Sharples (2) and one each for Tony Oliver, Damien Foster and Dave Van buten. A hat-trick each for Craig McManus and Andrew Ward plus (2) from Jamie Bennett and one from Mike Collins gave Gilesgate Moor Hotel a fine 9-2 win at Kelloe wmc. New Herrington Wmc were 5-2 home winners over Bearpark Wmc, two goals from Darren Robson plus one each for Lee Nicholson and Tomassi Ducci gave Burnmoor Dunn Cow a 4-2 win at the Bowburn Hare and Greyhound, Langley Park Wmc were 3-2 winners at Newton Hall Jovial Monk.
