Saltburn Cricket Club won the Kerridge Cup 2003 in a convincing victory over Darlington RA in the Darlington Building Society-sponsored competition. The game was played on Sunday, July 27 at Thornaby in front of a sizeable and appreciative crowd.

Batting first, Saltburn amassed a creditable total of 191 for the loss of seven wickets and reaching this target was always going to be a stiff test for RA. Despite a determined approach, the RA batsmen were kept at bay by Saltburn's bowling attack and wickets fell at regular intervals with runs always difficult to come by. Darlington RA struggled to their final total of 108 for the loss of 7 wickets leaving Saltburn worthy winners by 83 runs.

Presenting the impressive trophy to the Saltburn captain, David Copland, Marketing & Communications Manager at Darlington Building Society (right) said: "Congratulations to Saltburn on this excellent victory. The standard of cricket played was outstanding and Saltburn thoroughly deserve to win the Kerridge Cup this year.

"Darlington Building Society has sponsored the Kerridge Cup and the NYSD League for 13 consecutive seasons and it is rewarding that interest in local cricket remains so high.

"Darlington Building Society is dedicated to looking after local interests and we feel this includes providing tangible support for grass roots sport, and in particular the support of local cricket."
