Dawgs v Norton B

Celso was on form for Norton who found themselves three points down at the end of the quarter due to some good three-point shooting by Valley and Hirst. The second period reflected the close game with Norton closing he deficit to two points , missed free throws halting their charge even further. The second half started with Norton making most of the running whilst Wear Valley's Anderson made sure their one point lead was kept safe.

Norton continued to miss vital free throws in the third however as Bunnet took over the fourth quarter for the Dogs. As the game continued Wear Valley's foul trouble began to affect the game and Norton were able to see off any comeback, winning the game 61-56.

A4 Division 1, Belmont Panthers v East Durham & Houghall Community College A: The Panthers were able to seize momentum early, starting with two quick three-pointers.

Spragg replied with six of his own points in the first period for College who struggled to match Belmont's offence.

Belmont finished the opener with a 16-11 lead. The second period showed what the College offence looks like in full flow with 20 points altogether. Johnson's consistent play in the second quarter helped College reduce the Panther lead to one point by the half. College continued to try and draw alongside their opponents with the help of some nice baskets from Burrell. But the Panthers were able to spread the offence a little better as Baister supported Graham as College's offence limped home at the end as Belmont's consistent offence brought home the victory 65-54.

B11 Division 2

HQ Engineering Hornets B v Middlesbrough College Academy

The Hornets started putting up 35 points in the opening ten minutes of the game. If Middlesbrough were cold in the opener, they warmed up for the second period with 14 unanswered points. Luke Thompson was able to stop the bleeding but the damage had been done and College had already got themselves back in the game. The half finished 55-49 to the Hornets. The third period was all about trading baskets and the fourth would be when the game was won or lost. Both teams stepped up to the mark. McGarry came up with nine points of his own but College were always two or three baskets behind, Robinson and Errington adding to Luke and Leon's 21 points in the final stage. The Hornets continue their winning streak with the 114-105 victory.

M'brough College Academy top scorers: Archenoul 30, Armory 22, McGarry 22, Wassell 12.

B15 Division 2

Consett Steelers v Old Houghtonians

Consett started with a complete lack of offensive rhythm and a failure to stop Houghton from scoring. Whist Consett could not hit a shot, Houghton piled on the points.

The second period was a closer affair with Consett able to calm down their offence and make some kind of scoring impact. However, Houghton were able to maintain a lead of 17 at 25-42. The second half saw the game follow a similar course as Houghton's defence yet again ruffled the feathers of the Consett offence. Houghton's rebounding advantage allowed them to grab offensive boards aplenty. M. Patterson and M. Ewen scored all of Consett's 12 with 6 apiece, Burdis and N. Jenner did most of the Houghton scoring.

Houghton took the fourth by four points but by this point the game was a formality. Smailes finished as he started, scoring a further 13. Final score was Consett 54, Houghton 82.

C8 Division 3

Y. Houghtonians v Belmont Cougars

Houghtonians were able to field only five players after injury struck early on. The visitors brought nine players and weariness told in the end. In a low scoring game it was the Cougars who were able to gain the initiative after 20 minutes.

Houghtonians were able to keep the game interesting however with Carr and Belshaw providing important baskets. The game continued to be close up until the end of the third quarter, which finished 36 points each. It was Belmont who made the decisive strike in the fourth however with L. Harrison starting and ending a charge to which Belmont came out winners 52-46.

W4 Ladies Division

Nunthorpe Boro Bruins v Tyne & Wear Juniors

Nunthorpe suffered in the first quarter in the hands of Loader Young who scored ten of their 12 points to give the youngsters a 12-8 first quarter lead.

In the second quarter Nunthorpe settled into the game and they consolidated their lead in the third quarter by limiting Young to only two points and with eight points from Elizabeth Pate and 6 from Hermione Wappat making a welcome return from her maternity leave.

Further contributions by Lisa Roughley and Kendra Rogers in the fourth quarter gave Nunthorpe the victory 63-40.

B12 Division 2

East Durham & Houghall College B v Shildon Gold Lace Strollers

A solid performance saw College B win their second close game in as many weeks, winning East Durham run out winners 79-62.
