Darlington manager Mick Tait is awaiting the green light from chairman George Reynolds before making a move for free agent Keith O'Halloran.

The former Middlesbrough midfielder, released by Swindon Town at the end of last season, is currently on trial with Quakers and played in Wednesday night's reserves defeat by Boston.

With injuries and suspensions taking their toll on his wafer-thin squad, Tait is keen to give the 27-year-old Dubliner the chance to resurrect his career with Quakers.

Tait is also hopeful of making an additional loan signing ahead of tomorrow's home game with Bristol Rovers.

O'Halloran has been looking for a new club after being released by Swindon following a broken leg.

"It's fair to say that we were quite pleased with the way he played the other night," said Tait, who had O'Halloran on trial earlier this season before sending him back to Cirencester Town to build up his fitness.

"He's a lot fitter and slimmer than the first time he played," said Tait. "We could see that he was a decent footballer last time around but he had a little way to go fitness wise."

With winger Neil Wainwright already ruled out with an ankle injury, Tait was dealt a further blow yesterday with the news striker Glen Robson faces a week on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Gary Pearson and Danny Mellanby are both suspended for the visit of Rovers, while goalkeeper Andy Collett is out until December with a punctured lung.

* Ticket allocation for Tuesday night's LDV Vans Trophy first round clash with Hull City at the Reynolds Arena has been reduced.

Providing fans purchase in advance, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 concessions.

* Darlington are facing a race against time to have satellite TV installed in time for England's game with Turkey tomorrow.

Having already provided fans with two big screen TVs in Bar 66 this week, the club hope to screen the England tie after the game with Bristol Rovers, providing there are no complications with the installation today.

* The Reynolds Arena will play host to its first international on November 4. The England National Game XI - formerly England Semi-Pros - will take on Belgium Under 20's in their first international of the season at the stadium.

The squad for the game will be selected from players within the Nationwide Conference and its feeder leagues, with former Yeovil boss Paul Fairclough expected to name his squad on October 20.

Paul Barber, the FA's Director of Marketing and Communications, said: "The FA wanted a prestige venue.

"The quality and size of the stadium is ideal for staging international football, and the FA will be looking to see how local football supporters get behind this game, with a view to staging more international games at the club in the future."

Quakers chairman George Reynolds was delighted with the FA's decision to choose Darlington's new home as its venue.

"We're absolutely over the moon with their decision," beamed Reynolds.

"It's great news for Darlington Football Club and hopefully the fans will turn out in numbers."
