At the Morrison Indoor Bowls Centre in Darlington the October and November bowling calendar is packed with very important team games at local region and national levels additional to a demanding 22 league programme.

Wednesday, October 15 sees Darlington Ladies face up to an ambitious Sunderland side in the Durham County Inter-Club league championship.

The Quaker Ladies A Team squad includes Marjorie Bousfield (Captain) Olive Harris, Ann Simpson, Olwyn Kitching, Ann Anderson, Joyce Weston, Citty Robinson, Dulcie Harburn (Away team captain), Joyce Stephenson, Peggy Clark, Kath Tinkler, Margaret White, Barbara Watson, Vi Johnson, Maureen Whitton, Mary Armstrong, Audrey Cairns, Sadie Lynch, Audrey Shepherd, Joan Winter, Tracey Fairless, Pearl Wright, Edith Dunn, Doris Rewcastle, Doris Collinson.

The game starts at 12.30pm and includes three rinks at home and three rinks away with five league championship points going to the team with the best winning team aggregate over six rinks and a further six points going to each of the winning six rinks.

Both of these teams have a proud record over the last decade having won the championship on more than one occasion. The game promises to be keenly contested, very interesting and certainly worth supporting with a total of 126 ends taking up to three hours at each venue.

In the North England Yetton Trophy Championship Darlington Ladies are drawn to play Houghton on a two rinks at home and two rinks away basis. This national club championship is contested on a team knockout basis with the best total number of shots aggregated over four rinks deciding who goes through to the next round. The winners are likely to play a highly experienced Thornaby side.

In the All England Egham Trophy mixed fours team championship involving two rinks at home and two rinks away Darlington are drawn to play Hartlepool on Sunday, October 26 starting at noon.

In the Morrisons Centre Tuesday 6.30pm Men's Fours League the high level of competition every week brings out the best of 16 teams and this weeks' clash between two of the strongest sides did not disappoint.

Jack Grayson, Colin Young, John Wells and skip Andrew Kirtland were tested all the way to the finishing line by John Fielding, Fred Robinson, Ken Tinkler and skip Mark Jones.

Andrew trailed 3-0 after three singles on the first three ends. They scored seven shots on the next three ends then dropped a three and went into the 12th end with a narrow margin of 10-9 in this very low scoring duel.

Mark's four conceded another single to go into the last end two shots behind. They came good at the finish but were held to a single and had to concede a 10-11 defeat in another great game.

In the Darlington Morrisons Saturday Morning men's triples league Ken Bousfield, Mort, Mooney and skip Ken Lamb scored four threes from the fourth to the 12th end. Adding these scores to the five singles at the beginning and the end of the game took them to a 17-9 victory over Peter Simpson, Frank Wattam and Les Walker.

Harry Marshall, Frank Donaldson and Bob Howell scored ten shots to three in the middle of their game after securing two valuable fours shots at the first end to give them an 18-10 victory against George Armstrong, Bob Sparrow and Herbert Saltmarsh.
