Chester-le-Street Town: JUNIORS are through to the first round proper of the FA Youth cup and for the second successive season their opponents will be Hartlepool United.

The Juniors won through to the competition proper with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Northern Alliance side Bradford (Park Avenue) at Moor Park. They got off to the best possible start when Gary Draper's brilliant right wing cross was bulleted past the visiting keeper by the head of Christopher Laws after only 27 seconds.

A reshuffled Chester team dominated the opening half with Steven Richardson in midfield, and Carl Jones at the back particularly impressive. The Juniors had several other first half chances the pick of which was Gary Draper's brave header which just dropped the wrong side of the post. As the interval drew near Laws strike partner Martin Urwin was felled in the box as he prepared to shoot but no penalty kick was awarded. Three minutes later Urwin did get on the score sheet as he bundled the ball over the goal line to give Cestrians a 2-0 lead.

The visitors re-organised at half-time but they couldnt break through the Chester rearguard. When Laws struck again midway through the second half, turning sharply and firing home well from the edge of the box, it was game over.

Chester will play Hartlepool for the second successive season and after good wins at Morecambe and at home to Burscough the Juniors Manager will be hoping his side can go one step further this time.
