DARLINGTON MP Alan Milburn yesterday marked the completion of the town's new £2m gas pipeline.
The Transco project was undertaken to boost supplies and meet an expected rise in demand for gas by homes and businesses.
The new pipeline stretches 4km from Carcut Beck, north of Great Burdon, to a point just south of Inglewood Close.
Engineers drilled under two major roads, without any impact on traffic or wildlife, as part of the scheme.
Mr Milburn lit a flare at the Transco depot in John Street to celebrate the end of the work.
