Wilton: Wilton 2nd travelled to Morpeth 1st for what was their first encounter of North-East division two hockey, expecting a tough test Wilton started apprehensively but soon realised that the opposition were there for the taking.

Wilton were forced to watch for the early part of the first period as Morpeth pinged the ball around, fortunately their possession never troubled the Wilton defence as their final ball was ineffective.

Up stepped James Sullivan who, after just under a season away from the sport through work commitments looked as though he had never been away as he spun the last defender and fired the ball past the firmly rooted keeper to take Wilton ahead into the half-time break.

In the second period Wilton seemed to have more self belief and piled the pressure on Morpeth, man of the match Sullivan grabbed a second, from a well worked penalty corner before sealing his hat-trick after latching on to a Peter Morris cross with a rocket shot that almost took the roof of the net off. Final score Morpeth 0, Wilton 3.

Wilton 3rd faced a tough test at home to Stockton 4th, Wilton's youthful side can only get better this year as they make the step to division 4 hockey. They were unlucky to be beaten on this occasion by the odd goal, Wilton's two goals came from Andy Hibberd and man of the match Martin Havelock who has returned to playing the game this season after a long lay off with a niggling back injury. Unfortunately Wilton's young battlers were unable to stop Stockton's more experienced side from scoring the winner despite excellent performances from Stuart Blount, Michael Barclay and Paul Roberts.
