SCHOOL pupils celebrated success with their parents and teachers at an awards evening recognising a year of achievement.

The Northern Echo's award-winning columnist Mike Amos presented prizes at Parkside School, Willington,

Headteacher Roland Sterry reported on developments including the start of an information techology testbed project linking the school with primary schools in Crook and Willington.

He said: "These are exciting times for Parkside. There has been success in national exams, we are strengthening links with the local community and the testbed project is starting to show benefits."

He announced the school's intention to bid for specialist sports college status, in line with its philosophy of educating youngsters about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
