CHILDREN were inspired by a visit to a river and beautiful museum grounds to create a series of songs, poems and pictures.

Pupils at Holy Trinity CE School, in Stockton, spent eight weeks working with professional musician Dave Scott and poet Subhadassi to develop the project.

Parents had the chance to inspect the work and hear a special CD made by the children.

The year five and year six children, aged between nine and 11, visited the Preston Hall Park and Museum, in Eaglescliffe, and the River Tees in search of ideas for their creations.

The project was funded by Creative Partnerships Tees Valley and managed by New Writing North.

Julie Edmundson, arts co-ordinator at the school, said: "The children have really taken a lot from it.

"The exhibition had a powerpoint photographic show of the children doing their work and the parents were really interested. It has been a big success."
