A COUNCILLOR is to leave his barnet at the mercy of a villager who won the right to cut and dye his hair any way she chooses.

Councillor Stuart Walton put himself forward to raise money for a play park in Sherburn Village, near Durham.

The chance to wield the scissors was raffled and has helped raise more than £300 for Sherburn Outdoor Action for Kids (Oak).

Gillian Frankin, a resident of Sherburn, won the prize, and Coun Walton is due to find out today exactly what her plans for his hair entail. He has promised to keep the style for a week.

The event will take place at Hillary's hairdressers, in the centre of Sherburn Village, at 11am.

Coun Walton's daughter, PC Vicky Coxon, also had her hair cut recently to raise money for the project, and will present a £1,100 cheque to the charity.

A coffee morning will also take place in Sherburn Community Centre until noon, to help raise funds.
