Spennymoor slipped further behind the promotion places losing 2-0 at title chasing Droylsden on Saturday.

Moors are now in 17th place in the Premier Division table, two points behind the top thirteen, who are automatically guaranteed a spot in the reshaped Conference next season, and they may have to be content with a play-off place.

But manager Tony Lee, who included four new signings in his line up, was far from downhearted. "I'm very pleased with the performance against a team going well in the table," he said.

"It was a much improved performance on last week, and the new signings did very well."

Lee is hoping to further strengthen his team this week, partly because of the suspension of midfielder Neil Bishop. He is also hoping for international clearance to come through for defender Paul Talbot, who has been playing for Queen of the South.

Michael Gough, making his debut for Moors, cleared off the line early in the game and gave an excellent display, but they went behind after 21 minutes through Gareth Morris from a cross by Danny Byrne.

Droylsden went 2-0 up after 55 minutes when a defensive error let in Dave Cameron, who beat Gareth Downey. Moors then had their best spell of the game, and the home keeper pulled off two good saves from Chris I'Anson.

Bishop Auckland's home game with Chorley was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Their League Cup quarter final tie against Burscough will be played on Sunday, as Shildon are playing a Northern League game against Marske the day before.

Whitby's Premier Division home game against Runcorn was also postponed, while Blyth lost 1-0 at Southport. Gateshead slipped to their sixth successive defeat, losing 3-1 at home to Matlock in the First Division.
