The fifth NYSD cross country fixture took place at Barnard Castle on Sunday, February 15.

Bernadette Taylor stormed to victory in the senior women's race in 17.04 to claim her first win in the series.

U13 boys: Michael Parry 14th 10.32; Andrew Jones 15 10.39.

U13 girls: Rebecca Noble 7 09.41; Verity Pratt 11 09.50.

U15 boys: Jamie Rutherford 16 11.28.

U15 girls: Emily Saxby 10 12.38.

Senior women: Bernadette Taylor 1 17.04; Gill Wallis 54 29.31; Rose Rutherford 55 31.07, Sandy Wallis 56 32.00; Team: 9th.

Senior men: Martin Grainger 9 33.00; Nigel Orr 10 33.06; Ben Wilson 28 35.36; Steve Hutchinson 77 39.45; Kevin Grainger 84 40.25; Ian Barnes 92 41.00; Brian Hannah 97 41.38; John Brant 112 45.23. Team: 5th.

On the same day four Harriers took part in the Liversedge half-marathon which proved to be a tough course. Jack Mason finished 21st in 82.45; Ronnie Read 36 87.10; Steve Dauber 334 119.55; Jez Shaw 368 125.10 from 409 finishers.

The Yorkshire Mill 10km at Dewsbury saw Martin Grainger finish 12 in 33.10; Steve O'Neill 17 34.00; Jack Mason 46 35.55; Ben Wilson 58 36.24 and Emma Morley 425 in 50.24. There were 657 finishers. The men's team of Martin, Steve and Jack took the second team prize.

Darlington Harriers

The Harriers made the trip to Leeds on Saturday February 21 to take part in The English National Cross Country Championships held on a tough course at Temple Newsam. The first race was Under-15 Boys and Jamie Rutherford finished 251st in 17.29.

Under-13 Girls: Verity Pratt 174th 13,53, Rebecca Noble 209th 14.12.

Under-15 Girls: Emily Saxby 214th 19.50.

Senior Women: Susie Rutherford 60th, 36.34.

Senior Men: From 1394 finishers Nigel Orr 354th, 50.17, Steve O'Neill 567th, 53.14, Ron Read 694th, 55.20, Ben Wilson 761st 56.09, Jack Mason 822nd, 57.10.

The Senior Men finished as 76th team with 4250 points and the third complete team of six from the North East. The final meeting of the NYSD League takes place at Richmond School on Sunday March 7 where Senior Men's team will be looking to consolidate third place.

At the Snake Lane ten-mile race at Pocklington Martin Grainger ran an excellent race to finish third in a time of 55.58. And first male 40. Also Paul Kelly 45th in 52.17. Alison Raw 49th 62.48. There were 622 finishers.
