THE Richmond Motor Club held their Harold Graham trophy trial at Cogden Hall, near Grinton, last Sunday with a massive entry of 220 competitors.

Trials ace Dan Thorpe rode his Gas Gas to a clear win from John Sunter (Montesa) over two laps of a tough, 18-section course.

Sunter was the only rider to record two cleans at the rocky second section, where Andrew Calvert and Tim Stephens also went well, while David Metcalfe and Malcolm Tennant also scored cleans on the easy route.

There were only two cleans at the sixth section, by Mark Sunter on the first lap and winner Thorpe on the second. The following section seven, over rocks and tree routes, was fived by Thorpe on the second lap.

The next section was a steep, rocky climb which saw Les Richardson part with two. At the ninth section, a woodland climb over a fallen tree, Tom Rennison parted with just three, as did Richard Sadler.

In the TY80s, Jack McGregor just took the win from Liam White by a margin of five marks.

A fair-sized entry of 84 competitors took part in the Thirsk Motor Club's East Yorkshire Centre championship trial on Sunday at Long Plain Farm, Sutton Bank.

Overnight snow had made the four-lap, ten-section course trickier, but eventual winner David Pye only parted with nine marks on his Sherco.

The organiser decided at 9.30 on Sunday morning that, due to the conditions, the course would be better ridden in the reverse direction.

Section three was a long, rocky climb including tight turns where Pye dropped two marks and eventual runner-up Sean Robinson, also on a Sherco, lost a total of three to finish just five marks down on Pye.
