ATTRACTION confirmed her readiness for next Sunday's Ultimatebet.com 1,000 Guineas with a pleasing gallop at Ripon racecourse on Saturday.

Normally such exercises are shrouded in secrecy, but instead of adopting a cloak and dagger approach, trainer Mark Johnston put his unbeaten star filly on show in front of a crowd well in excess of 6,000 spectators.

It was a calculated risk by the record-breaking Middleham trainer, however any worries he might have harboured were soon laid to rest when Attraction quickened past her stable-companion, Caracara, in smooth style.

The six-furlong spin took place between the second and third races on Ripon's straight track. Initially Kevin Darley, Attraction's regular big-race jockey, sat just behind pacemaker Caracara, partnered by Joe Fanning.

The pair went a decent clip for the first four furlongs before Darley kicked in the turbo, whereupon Attraction changed gear and moved past Caracara in good style.

Attraction's stride pattern then momentarily faltered, however when Darley gathered up his reins up to steady the flying filly, she took off again and in the end he struggled to pull her up as the pair strode out for another half-mile or more.

"I'm very pleased with that, the only thing I said to Kevin beforehand was to remember the Guineas is next Sunday and not today," reported Johnson.

"Having not seen a racecourse since last July we weren't sure how Attraction was going to react to a big crowd, that was one of the reasons for bringing her here, but in the event she was just perfect."

Considering all of Attraction's five career victories to date have been over five and six furlongs, the only other worry surrounding her chances in the fillies' Classic at Newmarket next weekend revolve around stamina doubts.

"Looking at her pedigree she's bred to get the trip and because Kevin had trouble pulling her up she's gone ten furlongs today, which helps relieve any question marks we had over her stamina," added Mark.

Attraction was voted European Champion two-year-old filly for 2003 after five straight wins, including Royal Ascot success in the Queen Mary Stakes, and an even more impressive five-length triumph in the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting.

Unfortunately not long after her Newmarket victory Attraction fractured a hind leg pedal bone and had to be laid off.

l Johnston's Scott's View took his earnings this year to over £300,000 with a gallant third place in the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin in Hong Kong.

The five-year-old once again met traffic problems in the Hong Kong race and Johnston said from his Middleham base: ''It was a fantastic run but again the feeling was it could have been better.''

Scott's View could now head for the second leg of the World Series, the Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji on May 16.
