RADIO presenter Paul "Goffy" Gough has announced plans to quit Century FM after ten years.

Goffy has told his bosses he will not be renewing his contract in September.

He said: "I have been with Century for ten years and I have had a fantastic time.

"But it is time now to enter a new phase in my career and I'm really excited about the future, although I will fulfil all my contractual obligations to Century."

Over the decade, Goffy has hit the headlines time and time again, with everything from his best-selling wind-up CDs to enlisting the help of soccer stars to help ailing Gateshead FC.

He has also done a lot of work for charity and last weekend raised £65,000 for Hartlepool and District Hospice at a dinner in memory of his sister, Angela O'Hara, who died of breast cancer last year.

Goffy was able to call in heavyweight friends such as Alan Shearer and Boro manager Steve McClaren to speak at the fundraising event.

Yesterday, Goffy said he had already received some approaches about work but has made no definite decisions about his future.

"I have met great people and had the most amazing ten years, and I hope that I can take everything I've learned and use it in the future," he said.
