POLICE say an operation to net drug dealers has been hugely successful.

But they are urging the public to continue helping with the crackdown.

Chief Superintendent Dee Collins said: "I would urge the public not to get complacent and assume we know about drug dealing in a particular area just because they've made one call.

"If drug dealing is ongoing - keep calling. The pledge I can give is that if you provide good quality up-to-date intelligence about drug dealing in your community, we will respond to it and keep the initiative going.''

Langbaurgh's Dealer a Day campaign has resulted in 361 arrests from 260 raids over the past 12 months.

Police have seized more than £90,000-worth of drugs, including heroin, crack cocaine, ecstasy, amphetamine and cannabis and recovered nearly £40,000 in cash.

Chief Supt Collins, chairwoman of the Redcar and Cleveland Community Safety Partnership, said: "The crackdown has been carried out across the whole of the borough targeting both rural and urban areas where drug dealers cause misery and despair in the community.

"Some information we receive can be acted on instantly - other intelligence is being used for longer term planning. All of the intelligence we receive is acted upon, usually by using covert tactics so dealers are unaware that we are gathering evidence of their activities."
