Two men are helping police with their inquiries after being arrested in drug raids on Teesside, today.

The 20 and 24-year-old are in custody following the swoops which were concentrated on Middlesbrough's Easterside and Beechwood estates.

Cleveland Police have sent what is thought to be cocaine and cannabis for laboratory analysis.

A 23-year-old man has been released on police bail after being charged with a drug related offence following his arrest in a police swoop on Thursday.

Dozens of police officers, including officers from the Force's organised crime unit and drug squads, backed up by police dog handlers took part in the two days of raids.

Head of Operations, Detective Chief Superintendent John Kelly revealed more Operation Sabre raids are planned.

Giving his reasons, the police chief said: "From our intelligence networks we know the identity of a number of drug dealing organisations whose web of influence spreads throughout Teesside and beyond.

"This is an evil that will not be tolerated and these raids have shown our resolve to disrupt and destroy these criminal gangs.''

Det Chief Supt Kelly said: "We know who the dealers are and where they are operating from, it will only be a matter of time before they get a knock on the door.''

He said officers had been aware of these people's activities for some months and this week's raids were the culmination of hard work.
