Former Darlington skipper Andy Crosby returns today with his fourth club since leaving six year ago and Quakers are hoping they've finally cracked the hoodoo he seems to hold over the club.

Darlington's home win in April over Oxford, Crosby's then club, was only the second time he'd suffered defeat against his former employers in a total of 11 matches after leaving in the summer of 1998, since when he's also played for Chester and Brighton.

After playing well over 200 games for the Quakers, including captaining club in their first ever appearance under the twin towers at Wembley in 1996, Crosby left to join Chester.

At Wembley he led out a Darlington team featuring the likes of Matty Appleby, Robbie Blake, Robbie Painter and Sean Gregan - all players who moved on not long afterwards but none have gone on to face their former club with as much regularity, or success.

He represented Darlington a total of 211 times but after the spells with Chester, Brighton and Oxford, Crosby, 31, returns to Darlington with Scunthorpe fresh from scoring a penalty in the table-toppers' 2-0 win over Northampton on Monday.

He said: "I'm told that I've done well against Darlington when I've played them.

"I couldn't tell you whether or not that is true, but I do know that whenever I've gone back with the likes of Chester and Brighton I've done pretty well.

"We know we will be in for a hard game although it will be nice for me to go back and see a few people. The ground has changed just a little bit since I was there though! Hopefully we'll pick up another three points too.

"Saturday's game is going to be a tricky one and if we don't prepare for it in the same way we have the other six this season then we will lose," he added.
