Second from bottom Norton will play an important role in the destination of the Foster's ECB North East Regional Premier League championship when they meet leaders South Northumberland in the last game of the season this morning.

The Teessiders, safe from finishing at the basement, face a stiff test since South North, with the exception of one game, have been in tremendous form for several weeks.

Victory will almost certainly enable them to claim back-to-back titles and if their second XI avoid defeat at Norton they too will be crowned champions.

Sunderland are South North's nearest challengers and they sign off against Durham Academy at Ashbrooke unable to include Lee Rushworth or Tom Skillbeck who has a broken finger.

In the Federation Special Durham Senior League Burnmoor enter the final day two points ahead of Boldon. Both have away games and the Moors travel to South Hetton with an unchanged side. Their opponents also expect to field the same XI who won convincingly on Monday.

Boldon must win and then hope the result at South Hetton is in their favour. For the match at Seaham Harbour Boldon have Gareth Smith resuming replacing the injured Jamie Priestley. The winning of the toss could be crucial to the outcome of both games in what has developed into the closest title race for several years.

It is also tight at the top of the Readers Durham County League with only nine points separating Evenwood, who are hoping to clinch a third successive championship and Kimblesworth.

Evenwood go to Tudhoe having suffered one defeat all season - four fewer than any other side. Third top Tudhoe cannot include David Ronson or Stephen Maddison.

Kimblesworth captain Michael Fishwick is confident his team can take the maximum 40 points from the last two games but even then Evenwood would have to slip up for his team to end at the top. Today they visit Ushaw Moor.

After suffering a shock defeat last Saturday Tynedale are only seven points clear of Ashington with three games to play in the Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League.

Tynedale face a difficult game at Newcastle City while Ashington are odds on favourites to defeat bottom of the table Whickham who are already relegated.

At the bottom Lintz are struggling to avoid the drop and need a good result at home to fourth from basement Lanchester. In division A2 leaders Burnopfield go to Ponteland with both sides expected to win promotion.

Murton have already won the Durham Coast League championship but there is still much to play for in their game at Hylton. Murton hope to end the season as the only unbeaten side while Hylton are still in with a chance of finishing runners-up.
