PUPILS from a Darlington school put themselves to the test when they tackled an Army endurance challenge.

Eastbourne Comprehensive School took part in the 16th Kings Division annual schools competition at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks, in Strensall, York.

More than 280 pupils from 28 schools were involved, taking on six challenges designed to make pupils work as a team.

Each school team contained five boys and five girls, aged 14 to 16, and they competed in six events.

All teams were required to take on the gruelling obstacle course before testing their endurance, finding the target in archery, riding a ropeway and facing a quiz.

The youngsters were then given a final task - having to negotiate their way around a tough course in the final mountain bike event.
