AN invaluable scheme to help elderly and vulnerable people has been launched in Darlington.
The Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) and social services chiefs celebrated the start of the Good Neighbours project at Rosemary Court. It will see a range of services provided for more than 50 people in the area.
Volunteers will help with tasks such as shopping, letter writing, dog walking, collecting pensions or attending someone's home when workers visit.
WRVS project manager Rosemary Raine-Howe said: "Even small jobs can sometimes be daunting. Help with these can improve people's sense of security and enjoyment of life. For instance, taking someone to a doctor's appointment or just calling in for a chat can make a huge difference."
WRVS is currently looking for volunteers to join their Good Neighbour and Community Transport services. For more information telephone 0845 601 4670.
