A PROPOSAL to relocate a bus stop on a busy Hartlepool road would be detrimental to safety, a council report has said.

Before traffic signals were installed at the junction of Winterbottom Avenue and Warren Road, residents were consulted about the possible relocation of three bus stops.

Hartlepool Borough Council received a number of objections and it was agreed to leave the bus stops and to monitor whether this had an effect on the operation of the traffic signals.

The junction has been monitored and no problems have arisen since the signals were put in place.

But the council has received an objection from a resident, who supported moving one of the stops away from their property. An alternative location to the south of the junction, next to the Kwik Save store, was examined.

A report to the regeneration and planning portfolio, which will meet on Wednesday, said: "There would be a number of problems with this location including; the stop would be too close to the junction and the stop would be too close to the entrance of Kwik Save reducing visibility and posing a road safety risk. There is a bus stop opposite, which would cause congestion should buses be waiting at each stop at the same time."
