JAMAICAN international Damion Stewart will not link up with Darlington until after his country's involvement in the CONCACAF Gold Cup at the end of this month.

Stewart is part of the Reggae Boyz 18-man squad, which will play qualifying games against Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Cuba on February 20-24.

Quakers boss David Hodgson has offered the defender a deal until the end of the season after a successful trial spell at the Williamson Motors Stadium.

However, Hodgson has conceded that the 24-year-old will not return to the club until after international duty.

"Damion is a player we really want to bring in and have a good look at in a first-team environment before the end of the season," said Hodgson.

"He's been called up to the Jamaica squad at the end of this month so we have to be patient, but we are hoping to put together a package, which is acceptable to Damion."

While Stewart made a favourable impression in training and in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Queen of the South, Hodgson would like to see the 6ft 2ins stopper in competitive action.

He said: "We know that David McGurk can play well in the reserves all day long, but putting him in the reserves is no test and the same applies to Damion."

Stewart played Harbour View's 1-1 draw with Village United in the Jamaican Premier League at the weekend. The player is a free agent and will not command a fee. And as Jamaica is in the Commonwealth, Stewart would not require international clearance to join Quakers.

Meanwhile, midfielder Adrian Webster faces a race to be fit in time for the trip to Wycombe this weekend.

Webster limped off after just 14 minutes of Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to Notts County with a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

"Adrian's injury is nothing too serious," revealed club physio, Paul Gough. "He has been jogging and stretching this morning. It's nothing more than a tight hamstring, but well have a better idea on Thursday."
