FOUR key appointments have been made following the recent announcement of a £10m development plan for the 250-acre Great Yorkshire showground site on the edge of Harrogate.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society has recruited Nigel Morgan, a retired police inspector, as operations manager; Mark Stoddart, previously financial director of AdBus, as financial controller; Michelle Marshall, former event and conference organiser, as shows co-ordinator, and Susan Hibbert, formerly HR projects manager with the Yorkshire Building Society, as human resources manager.

The society is best known as the organiser of the Great Yorkshire Show, but events take place at the showground all year round, including the Yorkshire International Business Convention.

A recent independent survey revealed that the venue contributes bewteen £30m and 37m to the local economy.

Nigel Pulling, chief executive of YAS, said the work of the society had increased substantially over the last few years.

"Our plans to improve the facilities and become the agricultural centre of the North mean we need a team of the highest calibre," he said.

"Our new members of staff enable us to take the society's work forward both as an important venue for a wide range of events, and as organisers of the Great Yorkshire Show."
