MEMBERS of a Rotary Club are preparing to celebrate their group's 70th anniversary.

The Thirsk club has put together a display charting its achievements and activities since it received its Rotary Charter on March 15, 1935.

The display is currently on show in the reception area of Thirsk Library, but it will be moved to the new Rotary premises at number 8 Castlegate, on March 15, where it will form part of an open day event.

The open day will also celebrate this year's centenary of Rotary as a worldwide organisation. Members will be on hand to meet with residents from 10am until 3pm.

Club president Charles Gill said: "This is currently a strong, healthy club of about 50 members, but we must always look to the future and ensure that we have a sustainable steady intake of new younger members coming through to enable us to continue the good work that Rotary does in our community."
